David Ravelo Freed!

The Committee for International Labor Defense is very pleased to report that David Ravelo, arrested and imprisoned by Colombian authorities in August 2010, has been conditionally released. Tom Whitney, who has worked on the Ravelo defense for many years and who visited him in prison, sent us confirmation of the good news.

For more details and links on the case, please read W.T. Whitney's article Colombian prisoner David Ravelo must go free, from the January 5, 2017 edition of People's World.

In addition to the outpouring of international solidarity from many countries, CILD members raised David Ravelo’s defense in China on several occasions, most recently in April and May, and arranged for a Colombian Communist Party comrade of David Ravelo to speak at a major forum organized by the Communist Party of China.

Last December, a CILD contingent led by Tom Whitney spoke with the Colombian Consul-General in Boston, with a petition signed by numerous organizations and individuals. The contingent also made clear that David Ravelo's defense has been raised in China.
